Break A Difference (B•A•D) programs are offered in a variety of cities across the nation. Our Baltimore site tackles a multitude of causes including poverty, homelessness, and their environmental effects on the city. Volunteers will staff food pantry banks, upgrade transitional housing facilities, and help to maintain shelters while getting a better understanding on the problems affecting the city.
Located just north of the Chesapeake Bay, Baltimore is the largest independent city in the country. In recent years, the city has been plagued by poverty and crime. 23.8% of the population lives below the poverty line, well above the national average of 14.8%. With crime at an all-time high, Baltimore saw 344 homicides in 2015.
